Headhunting – How to Ensure Your Own Head Gets Hunted.


One of the very best things about online recruitment these days is the way in which if you play your cards right, someone else might just do all the hard work on your behalf.

Well, maybe not all of the work as such, but if and when you manage to get your profile picked up by head-hunters, it’s a bit like having the job opportunities of your dreams falling right there into your lap.

Of course, there’s plenty of effort involved in getting yourself noticed and picked up in the first place – sitting idly by and waiting for it to happen won’t get anyone anywhere. It’s all about making yourself come across as a tempting proposition for the businesses and brands you’re interested in working for, which means targeting your efforts accordingly.

In order to improve your chances of being noticed by those doing the headhunting, you’ll need to cover the following:

1 – The Right Portals.

There are certain online recruitment services and portals that head-hunters instinctively flock toward – others are completely ignored and overlooked. Needless to say, it’s the latter of the two that you really don’t want to be spending too much of your time focusing on, which is why choosing at random or taking quality for granted isn’t a good idea. It’s always better to choose specialist sites and services that focus on your niche. If you’re looking to get picked up by employers from the Middle East, use specialist Middle East recruitment portals, for example.

2 – Fresh and Relevant CV.

.You’re technically looking to jump the queue and land yourself right in the interview stages of the process. This means that in order to gain an understanding and impression of who you are and what you do, all the head-hunters will have to go on is your CV. This is why there’s really no such thing as putting too much effort into your CV, which must be kept both relevant and fresh right up to the current date. The longer you allow it to go stagnant for, the lower its appeal will be in the eyes of those headhunting new employees.

3 – A Strong Online Presence.

Never forget that in the digital age, a strong online presence can count for a heck of a lot. If for example you are active in the forums and discussion groups relevant to your area of interest, you just never know who might be reading and who might take an interest in what you have to say. They often say it’s all about being in the right place at the right time, which means the more places you’re in and the more time your spend there, the better your chances of being noticed.

4 – Make the First Move.

Last but not least, it’s crucial to remember that being head-hunted represents something of a brilliant bonus, as opposed to a result you can count on. Or in other words, your primary focus should always be that of making the first move and approaching potential employers, as opposed to just waiting around in hope they’ll eventually find you.
